Michigan’s election laws allow for voters to cast their ballots in a number of simple and convenient ways that are outlined below.

Voting In-Person

  • At the polls on election day
  • At the polls before election day
    • Early polling places may be different than on election day. To find your early voting location and hours contact your local clerk or go to the Michigan Secretary of State website by following this link: michigan.gov/sos/elections/voting.

Absentee Voting

  • Permanent absentee list
    • Registering for this list means you will be automatically mailed a ballot for every election.
  • Absentee list
    • Registering for list means you will be mailed an absentee ballot application for every election, this application will have to be completed and returned in order to receive an ballot.

There are several ways to return absentee ballots. Firstly, the ballots can be mailed using the address and postage provided. Absentee ballots can also be submitted directly to your local clerk in-person or placed in one of your municipality’s drop boxes.
