The United States Supreme Court’s decision allowing mail-order abortions to continue while the Louisiana court case proceeds is an alarming affront to both states’ rights and women’s health.
Big money “reproductive freedom” political activists — abortion providers and special interest groups — trumpeted states’ rights after the overturn of Roe, then immediately moved to subvert states with laws they didn’t like. Mail-order abortions pave the way for the abortion pill to be sent to women in states with pro-life legal safeguards, which are meant to reflect their citizens’ preferences.
Beyond sidestepping states’ legal protections, the ongoing failure to reinstate the in-person dispensing requirement presents an unduly high risk to women. Women are left in the dark, abandoned to take the pills alone at home. A recent large-scale study demonstrated one in 10 women face serious complications. The risks increase without medical oversight.
The left’s eerie fixation on pushing an abortion-only response to women facing unplanned pregnancy is a shameful disservice to women. If safety truly matters, ongoing reports about the dangers of taking the abortion pill must be met with medical oversight at a minimum, not misinformation or a political tug of war.
