Right to Life of Michigan board member recognized nationally for prolife work

Katie WilcoxMichigan prolife leader Katie Wilcox is a 2013 recipient of the Susan B. Anthony List's Young Leader Award. Every year, the prolife organization Susan B. Anthony List recognizes several outstanding young women under the age of 30 who embody the prolife legacy of Susan B. Anthony.

"I'm thrilled, I'm so proud of everything we have done in Michigan," Katie said.

Katie was nominated for her already extensive career with building involvement in prolife organizations. Involved in prolife work at a young age, Katie was a state finalist at the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund High School Oratory Contest. While in college she served as president of Michigan State University Students for Life. Her involvement on campus inspired her to found Students for Life of Michigan in 2005, an organization that provides support and leadership development for Students for Life chapters across the state of Michigan.

Seeing the need for prolife college graduates and busy young professionals to stay engaged in prolife work, Katie hosted a young professional's reception in conjunction with the Students for Life of Michigan Conference in 2009. The successful event led her to help found Young Professionals for Life of Michigan, which is dedicated to involving young professionals with prolife organizations in their area and providing support to area Students for Life chapters. The program currently has three local networks in Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids.

"I'm excited to bring attention to the need for young professionals to be involved in prolife organizations and their communities," she said.

Adding to her long list of grassroots prolife activities, Katie was recently elected to the board of directors of Right to Life of Michigan at the September 2012 Conference. She has also been very active working and volunteering with election campaigns for prolife candidates on the state and federal levels. Katie takes advantage of any opportunity to advance the cause of life.

"I'm always willing to help out," she said.
