Featured Event: An Evening for Life

This Friday, July 26, marks National Disability Independence Day, an important commemoration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act which aims to prevent the discrimination of individuals with disabilities in areas such as employment and public accommodations. While this was an important step forward, much work still needs to be done to ensure individuals with disabilities have access to quality healthcare and more. Not only that, threats continue to emerge, particularly the dangers posed to the disability community by bills in the State Senate that would legalize physician-assisted suicide. (We continue to work to defeat those bills.)

At Right to Life of Michigan, we stand alongside those with disabilities in the important battles ahead. And, today, we make a special point of celebrating the courage, joy and love shared and fostered by individuals, many of them loved ones, who experience a disability. In fact, several studies have shown that many within the disabled community report a higher quality of life than able-bodied people. They push through physical and mental restrictions, showing a tenacious drive to overcome obstacles, not letting their disability prevent them from achieving their goals.

May we continue to live out the truth that each and every life is fully worthy of love, respect and compassion.
