Choose Life License Plates

S.B. 1162
Sen. Valde Garcia

Current Status
S.B. 1162 was introduced by Sen. Garcia on March 4, 2008 and referred to the Committee on Transportation.

The Secretary of State would design and issue a "Choose Life" fund-raising license plate. These plates would be available along with other specialty plates for purchase. The fund would be created within the state treasury, which would then direct the investment of the fund. The state treasurer would disperse the funds equally between the Pregnant and Parenting Student Service Fund and the Ultrasound Equipment Fund already established in law. The recipients of the funds would be required to submit a summary of expenditures to the state treasurer annually.

Various forms of this legislation has been introduced in the past, to no avail. Currently, thirteen states have successful "Choose Life" specialty license plate programs, with proceeds going to pregnancy resource centers and abortion alternatives such as adoption agencies.
