If one had to consider a date other than the Sunday nearest January 22—the date of the Supreme Court’s infamous Roe v. Wade decision—what better day to remember life and sacrificial love than February 14?

Valentine Day, or more properly St. Valentine’s Day, remembers more than just flowers and chocolate, but historically honors the life of the heroic first century priest and martyr Valentine, whose name “Valens” means worthy, strong, powerful. Fittingly, there is no cause more worthy to powerfully remember, defend, and love than the right to life on Valentine Day. Without question this is a beautiful witness to God’s love, and to His gift of love—human life—and to our love that compels us to protect and defend that life. Everything rests on love, for God so loved the world that He gave His Son, and it is our response to His love which then motivates our love and for all people, especially a mother, father, and child.

“So, why another Sanctity of Life Human Sunday?” Well, it would be an understatement to say that lately, “things have been a bit hectic, chaotic and confusing,” in fact, a massive understatement. Life this past year has been surreal, hasn’t it? The COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns, November 3, January 6, January 20; with each of us watching, reading, and discussing events in our nation that none of us have ever witnessed in our lifetime. In fact, things have been so chaotic that many pastors have told us and our affiliates, “it’s not that we don’t want to remember Sanctity of Human Life Sunday on January 17, but right now, with all that is going in, I fear the message will be lost, or not fully appreciated.” We cannot disagree.

The issue of life, and the protection of all human life from conception to natural death, and the compassion that the Church will exhibit to women and the unborn, all must be addressed in a loving, truthful manner. With this in mind: Right to Life of Michigan is encouraging pastors and churches that were unable to remember Sanctity of Life Sunday on January 17 to remember it on Sunday, February 14, 2021; a Sanctity of Life Sunday—part two if you will—or on any Sunday from now until the end of February.

It is providential that this day, February 14, 2021 falls on a Sunday. This “holiday” has historically been given over to the idea of secular, romantic “love,” but it can become a “holy day” dedicated to the idea of biblical love, and to the declaration that life is God’s unalienable gift—in which persons created in His image and likeness cannot have this right to life taken from them: an unalienable gift that even Government cannot strip away.

“So how can our church jump in, and remember love on this Sunday?” Easy. Find all the resources that you need for this “Love Life,” Sanctity Sunday right here: www.rtl.org/sohls
