Earlier this month was Easter Sunday, the day in which Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, emerged from his tomb as the victor over death. His ultimate sacrifice won humanity the greatest reward – life after death, united with God in heaven. What a tremendous gift we have been given!

Included with the celebration of Jesus’s Resurrection, Easter provides an overall feeling of hope. Hope is a beautiful tool that can help lead to incredible discoveries, decisions, and leaps of faith. It is also a tool we try to use every day at Right to Life of Michigan, as we work to meet pregnant women where they are with the hopeful choice for life.

Our society currently embraces an abortion-first response to unplanned pregnancy. Abortion is touted as an “empowering” choice. Abortion-obsessed groups like Planned Parenthood tell women that it is a safe and easy decision, purposefully masking the harsh reality that many post-abortive women face. Michigan no longer requires important abortion statistics, like the rate of serious complications, to be reported. This is negligent and harmful to women, as we saw a 38% spike in these serious complications in 2023, the last year that abortion data was gathered in our state.

Women deserve better than to be fed a dangerous lie and be left to endure the consequences alone. Women deserve HOPE. And the choice for life is a way to provide that hope.

Instead of turning our backs on the women facing an abortion decision, the pro-life movement reaches out to her with open arms and offers life-affirming resources and support. By connecting them to their local Pregnancy Resource Center, Right to Life of Michigan works to provide every woman with the means to choose life. Some Pregnancy Resource Centers provide care years after the baby is born, allowing women to feel supported long after their choice for life.

Where we can provide the means to choose life, we can provide hope. The decision of continuing or ending a pregnancy ultimately lies in the hands of the mother. But if we can provide her with hope, she may find the courage to make the beautiful choice for life.

For choice to truly exist, we need to provide women with every means to choose life. And through those means, and the hope they provide, we can start to see a shift in the protection of life.
