As the temperature slowly begins to climb and the days grow longer, we enter into March excited for the upcoming change of seasons. Not only does March mark the beginning of spring, but it is also Women’s History Month. We are reminded to celebrate the powerful and influential women that have helped shape our country and world. Just as the seasons begin to change, so must we as a society begin to change our idea of what “empowerment” really means for women.
I grew up in a family with my mom and two sisters, I have over a dozen female cousins, and I am blessed with an incredible fiancé. I have always had amazing women in my life and recognize the importance that they hold for our society. It is important for everyone, men and women, to empower the women around us, working in tandem to better our world. Unfortunately, society has taken the word “empowerment” and twisted it to support a pro-abortion agenda.
Women are told that having an abortion is an “empowering choice” and that it’s basic “reproductive healthcare.” Abortion is promoted as safe and easy, and anyone who tries to argue is “taking a woman’s rights away.”
Women deserve better.
Empowerment is not succumbing to the corrupted societal view that abortion is the only option for a woman experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. True empowerment is meeting women where they are at and letting them know that they have every opportunity to make a hopeful and courageous choice for life. It is directing them to the Pregnancy Help Hotline (1-800-712-HELP) to find prolife pregnancy care near them. It is guiding them to their closest Pregnancy Resource Center so they have a place to receive free baby items, childcare classes, ultrasounds, and more. It is being there for emotional support when they feel scared and alone in an unplanned pregnancy.
As we take this month to celebrate the women who have shaped our world today, let us recommit ourselves to ensuring that every woman, no matter her circumstances, feels she has the means to choose life.
