Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the amazing women who have contributed so much to our society. Their courage, creativity, and leadership have shaped history and continue to inspire future generations. There are so many women that I look up to with incredible qualities worth emulating. The compassion of Mother Teresa. The courage of Joan of Arc. The tenacity of Susan B. Anthony. I have also been blessed with an incredible wife, mom, and sisters who have helped me be a better man as I try to replicate their amazing character traits.
With all of the incredible contributions women have made to our world, it is striking that our society so often turns its back on them when they face difficult pregnancy decisions. Organizations like Planned Parenthood and other abortion-obsessed groups frequently present ending a pregnancy as a “freeing” solution. Selling a lie that abortion is an “easy” and “empowering” choice is a betrayal to women and hides the true negative impact that this decision makes.
We need to do better.
The choice to end or continue a pregnancy ultimately lies in the hands of the woman. It is her final decision. What our culture needs to improve on is providing her with every support and means possible to make the choice for life. We should have an unwavering commitment to help pregnant women find local resources to assist them both before and after their pregnancy. Instead, they are often met with the lie that abortion is the best decision for them. That needs to change.
At Right to Life of Michigan, we work to connect women with the dozens of pro-life Pregnancy Resource Centers across the state by listing them on our website. Our “Life. The Other Choice.” ads end in a helpline (1-800-712-HELP) that connects women with their closest life-affirming supports. We work to paint the choice for life in the way that it should be – as a beautiful, courageous, and hopeful choice that every woman should feel they have the ability to make.
Women’s History Month highlights the vital role that women play in shaping our world today. I believe it is time we show them the proper respect and compassion that they deserve and stop hiding the reality of abortion behind the guise of empowerment. Let’s TRULY empower women by providing them with every opportunity to choose life.
