March beckons us to celebrate Women’s History Month, a time to honor the extraordinary women who have helped shape our nation. We remember pioneers like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, whose relentless pursuit of women’s suffrage and abolition helped lay the groundwork for freedoms we enjoy today.

We are inspired by the legacy of pioneering women like Dr. Mildred Jefferson, a brilliant surgeon who dedicated her life to serving women, challenging the harmful narrative that abortion is somehow empowering. As she eloquently stated,

“I am at once a physician, a citizen, and a woman, and I am not willing to stand aside and allow this concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged, and the planned have the right to live.”

Early feminists understood that true liberation meant addressing the systemic issues that forced women into desperate situations. They fought for a society where every woman had the resources, support, and opportunities to thrive.

Tragically, modern feminism has strayed from this path, often promoting abortion as a form of women’s liberation. This misrepresents the true meaning of women’s empowerment, which should focus on removing obstacles and other societal pressures that drive women to abortion.

True empowerment lies not in the destruction of innocent life, but in creating a society where women are truly free – free from the pressures that coerce them into making decisions rooted in fear instead of hope. It means expanding prenatal and postnatal care, access to childcare and economic opportunities that empower women to thrive, as well as building a community that offers love and ongoing support.  It means creating a society where motherhood is celebrated and supported, not discouraged.

Dr. Alveda King, following in the footsteps of her father and uncle, powerfully connects the fight for racial justice with the fight for the unborn. She reminds us:

“Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error. The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness.”

At Right to Life of Michigan, we believe in empowering women to make the best choices for themselves and their families. We stand with women facing unexpected pregnancies, offering guidance, resources, and a compassionate community. We work tirelessly to educate women on the truth about abortion, providing resources to enable them to choose life. We advocate for policies that strengthen families and create a society where every woman feels valued and supported, regardless of her circumstances.

We do all of this in the face of a relentless, anti-life agenda from our abortion-obsessed governor and ongoing efforts to keep women facing unplanned pregnancies in the dark on facts about the dangers of abortion and the hope of life-affirming options.

What the future looks like in our state will be determined by our joint efforts to stand with women and protect the unborn.

Join us as we push to awaken a generation to the truth, empowering them to stand against the tide of misinformation. We can build a Michigan where:

  • Parents retain the right to guide their children’s decisions.
  • Women considering abortion are provided with genuine alternatives and support.
  • Every human life, born and unborn, is protected and valued.

As you reflect on the important contributions of women to our society, I ask you to stand with us as we work to build a culture in which each and every woman who finds herself pregnant has the support she needs to embrace a choice for life!
