Trump Administration Issues Two Prolife Policies

On November 7, the Trump Administration proposed two policies that deal with abortion coverage in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The first rule affects taxpayer funding of insurance plans that cover elective abortions, requiring people who want insurance coverage of abortion to pay for it themselves. The second rule finalizes changes to the HHS Contraceptives Mandate, making it essentially optional. Both Hobby Lobby and the Little Sisters of the Poor won their cases at the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Trump Administration followed through on changes to protect their conscience rights.

Election 2018: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The 2018 election results were a mixed bag. A path remains forward to overturning Roe v. Wade and even passing more prolife legislation in Michigan, but the real challenge now will be enforcing our prolife laws. A pro-abortion governor and attorney general in Michigan will be challenges to face in the coming years. There are prolife majorities in the U.S. Senate, and both houses of the Michigan Legislature, however. Thank you to the many prolife volunteers around the state who outdid themselves during the general election. Together, Right to Life of Michigan and our many volunteers made more than 2,675,000 voter contacts, not including major media advertising on TV and radio.

National Adoption Month

November is National Adoption Month. This month we celebrate the beautiful families who are brought together through adoption, and the courage of the birth parents who chose life for their children. Whether through infant adoption, international adoption, or adoption from foster care, adoption gives children the opportunity to have a permanent home and loving family. Adoption is a loving and courageous, though often overlooked, alternative for those facing an unplanned pregnancy.

March for Life 2019

The annual National March for Life will be in Washington, D.C. on January 18. The March for Life is a great opportunity to physically stand up for the rights of the unborn and demonstrate support for life in our nation’s capital. On the 46th memorial of the legalization of abortion through Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, hundreds of thousands of people will gather to protest the injustice of abortion. This year the speakers at the rally preceding the March are Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood abortion facility director, and Ben Shapiro, host of “The Ben Shapiro Show,” a top national podcast. Several Right to Life of Michigan affiliates are planning bus trips for the March.
