Stem
Cell Research
Stem
cell research is the most misunderstood life issue. Most people do not
realize that stem cells can be obtained from numerous adult sources,
umbilical cords and placentas – without ending the life of a developing
human being. Stem cells from human embryos are not needed for
stem cell research to continue.
This
web site contains links to news articles on life-affirming stem cell
research and a list of breakthroughs in adult stem cell research.

“Adult
Stem Cell Research: Making a Difference Today” is a 19-minute video
which explains stem cell research using four human interest stories.
This video would be a great opener for a Sunday School Class, Bible
Study, or meeting on current events. Unfortunately, stem cell research
is grossly misrepresented in the media, but this video is an excellent
educational piece and will aid people when hearing about stem cell research
or talking with others about this important topic.
“The
Science of Stem Cells: Finding Cures and Protecting Life” includes
testimonials from and interviews with patient advocates, prominent scientists
and stem cell researchers urging support for adult stem cell research,
a nurse and bioethicist who addresses the effects of egg extraction
and human cloning on women, and a priest and bioethicist who addresses
embryonic and adult stem cell research from a moral and theological
perspective.
Embryonic
Stem Cell Research: Putting Women at Risk
Where will all the eggs come from? Using embryonic
stem cells from cloned human embryos to treat a single disease would
require an impossible number of reproductive-aged women to go through
the onerous and sometimes dangerous process of donating their eggs.

Fact Sheet - Advances in
Ethical Stem Cell Research
Proponents of human embryonic
stem cell research often cite all of the potential treatments that may
result from the research but fail to mention that human life is destroyed
when removing these cells from a human embryo. Now researchers have
pioneered a different kind of treatment that carries the same potential
for treating disease... without destroying human lives. PDF

Survey shows Michigan residents
oppose cloning and killing human embryos
A public opinion poll of 500
likely voters taken in April shows that residents of Michigan are overwhelmingly
opposed to measures that would legalize the killing of human embryos
for their stem cells and the cloning of human embryos. Of those surveyed,
70 percent didn’t “support stem cell research that kills the human embryo
so the stem cells can be removed” and 65 percent said they would vote
no “on a proposal that would eliminate Michigan’s ban on the cloning
of human embryos.”

Since stem cells are so versatile
there is hope within the medical community that some day the cells can
be reprogrammed to cure various diseases. This stem cell fact sheet
contains information on the potential of stem cells, stem cell research,
and the current legal situation regarding embryonic stem cell research.
