Michigan Remains a Prolife Stronghold
While President Bush lost to John Kerry in Michigan’s popular vote, his percentages showed a significant gain over the results in the 2000 General Election. Overall, President George W. Bush won the popular vote; and won the popular vote with more than 50 percent! It was obvious prolife voters were at the polls in force. Apart from the presidential contest, prolifers can be encouraged by the other races in Michigan. On the Congressional level, all nine prolife congressmen/woman were re-elected, the state house remains solidly prolife with 85 percent of endorsed candidates winning, prolifers in the judicial races realized an 82 percent success rate while local prolife candidates had an 83 percent success rate. The 2004 General Election also pointed to the vital importance of the August Primary Election. Because the turnout in a Primary Election is traditionally much smaller than a General Election, the organization or group which can motivate their voters to go to the polls will have a much greater impact on the Primary - and thus the General Election. Because the RLM-PAC had an overall success rate of 89 percent in getting our endorsed candidates through the Primary (95.6 percent for state house candidates), we had a far greater number of prolifers in the General Election than would have been on the ballot had we not been involved - and had you not voted - in the Primary Election. Prolife voters must realize the importance of the Primary Election and the influence we can have far above our actual numbers. You have once again given the unborn a majority in our Congressional
delegation, in our state house, and you’ve laid the groundwork in local
elections from which our future legislators will come. You are to be congratulated
- but also encouraged to continue the work for the unborn until they,
too, have basic civil rights restored, including the right to life. |
