President's Message: Embracing Life Builds Positive Outlook

How many videos arrive in your "in box" from family, friends and even co-workers? My guess: too many! The ones I receive range from funny to sad to inspiring with a few leaving me wondering. Recently in my in box was an e-mail about motivational messaging with a video attachment entitled: Embrace Life! The video was an example of a positive message that would motivate people to a certain action. While the video had nothing to do with our specific issues of abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide or euthanasia, the message of embracing life certainly speaks to us as a movement.

Our whole outlook as an organization and movement is one of embracing life over the choice of death. From our projects and programs to our activities we look to Embrace Life. We counter the choice of death through abortion by promoting adoption and providing information about pregnancy help programs and organizations. While the U.S. Supreme Court decisions continue to hinder the attempts to completely outlaw abortion, we enhance and embrace life through laws that require waiting periods, encourage ultrasound viewing before an abortion, prevent secret teen abortions and encourage parental involvement. In addition, we continue to demand that none of our tax monies are used for the choice of death over life, whether by abortion or through the rationing of health care at the end of life.

Throughout the summer and fall local Right to Life of Michigan affiliates will Embrace Life at county and city fairs displaying fetal models, hosting "beautiful baby" contests and providing life-giving educational materials.

At our September annual conference, we again will Embrace Life through inspirational speakers. Ellen Salter will share with us their family's journey caring for a very special daughter whose precious life is a lesson of encouragement for us all. The conference line-up also features Phill Kline, former Kansas Attorney General, who will share with us his trials fighting for life against Planned Parenthood. Please Embrace Life by joining us for a day that will certainly revitalize and encourage you.

Our message of embracing life may not always be a popular one nor politically correct but as Archbishop Charles Chaput said, "Abortion is the foundational human rights issue of our time. You can't build a just society and at the same time legally sanction the destruction of generations of unborn human life. But none of these other duties (i.e. the needs of the poor or others) can obscure the fact that no human rights are secure if the right to life is not."

Thank you for working on behalf of a culture of life so others may too experience the opportunities and joys of Embracing Life.
